Program Reflections from the Artistic Director

In the spring of 2000, I threw a big sheet of paper on the wall at rehearsal and asked singers to write down names of individuals they would like to work with as guest artists. Several singers wrote down Kate Clinton and I thought, "yeah, in your dreams."

After the 2004 November elections, I wanted to offer something to audiences that gave them a sense of hope. Inviting Kate for a humor-themed concert seemed like the perfect boost and four years later, we were ready. Turns out that Kate was ready too. She's been dying to join a choir and we've finally given her that chance. It has been a blast working with Kate and you're going to love her!

We've had a busy year as a chorus including a fall outreach tour to Northern Minnesota, a January collaboration with Kairos Dance Theatre, a full-day of concerts in St. Paul high schools, and the release of our new Building Bridges CD. I'm especially proud of the work One Voice has done this year in addressing social change in our community and beyond. Tonight, we sing to offer a sense of hope, but also to shake assumptions, stimulate dialogue, and challenge the status quo. We hope you leave tonight inspired to challenge and change the world!

Artistic Director
