"Bravissimo! Favorites from the Stage"
January 19 and 20, 2001
Sundin Hall, Hamline University, St. Paul
A delightful mix of music from stage venues, including opera and Broadway, musicals and movies. As a recent reviewer said, "One Voice doesn’t just stand up there and sing this chorus makes music three-dimensional."
The program included the following:
Triumphal Scene, the Grand March from the opera "Aida," by Giuseppe Verdi
Victor/Victoria, from the show of the same name by Henry Mancini. Just imagine the choreography we did for this gender-bender!
The Music of the Night, from "The Phantom of the Opera," by Andrew Lloyd Webber
Barcarolle, from "Tales of Hoffman," by Jacques Offenbach, a gorgeous duet between Giulietta, a Venetian courtesan, and a worldly-wise youth named Nicklausse
A medley of classic Cole Porter tunes, including Anything Goes, You’re The Top, My Heart Belongs to Daddy, and Night and Day
It’s A Grand Night for Singing, from "State Fair," by Rodgers and Hammerstein
The Gondoliers, the last-act finale from the Gilbert & Sullivan musical of the same name
Also selections from "Pippin," "A Chorus Line," "Chicago," "Kiss Me Kate," and "Mary Poppins," written by composers such as Marvin Hamlisch, Cole Porter, and Thomas "Fats" Waller
