About Our Community
The Chorus Community
One Voice is composed of over 80 men and women of diverse cultural backgrounds, drawn together as members and supporters of the GLBT community. We welcome singers and musicians of varying musical and artistic experiences, skill levels, and abilities, believing that we grow by learning together and encouraging individual and group accomplishments.
Being a member of One Voice can be a profound experience for many chorus members, affecting their sense of identity and connection to community. For members who use their choral participation as a means of educating their friends and families about their lives, One Voice serves as a positive and supportive "coming out" experience. A One Voice member put it this way:
"I [was] so conscious of not having anyone visible during my own adolescence and early twenties, and I think the sense of isolation and confusion is greatly lessened by even knowing groups such as One Voice Mixed Chorus exist."
On January 27, 2006, One Voice had an article in the Minneapolis Star Tribune that does a nice job of describing our group.

Our Audience
One Voice attracts an enthusiastic audience drawn to our performances because of the variety of artistic elements that are woven into the choral music we perform, the creative themes, collaborations, choreographed numbers, user-friendly program notes, ASL interpretation, and a healthy dose of humor.
While One Voice primarily serves the Twin Cities metropolitan region, we have performed in other Minnesota and mid-West locations. Concerts draw people from all regions of Minnesota and neighboring states. Concert audiences consist of families and friends of all ages and races, and members and supporters of the GLBT community.
The Wider Community
One Voice is a member of the Gay and Lesbian Association of Choruses (GALA) , an international alliance of more than 200 men's, women's and mixed choruses dedicated to providing leadership and inspiration to the lesbian and gay movement through excellence in the choral arts.
The chorus also has a long history of collaboration with other GLBT musical organizations. In Minnesota, One Voice is a member of the Queer Music Consortium (QMC), The members of this association also include the Minnesota Freedom Band, Twin Cities Gay Men's Chorus, Calliope Women's Chorus, and the Minnesota Philharmonic Orchestra.
