One Voice Board of Directors
Halvorson has extensive nonprofit and for-profit business management experience and has served on several nonprofit boards of directors. He is a singer with One Voice Mixed Chorus and is self-employed as a mortgage broker. He holds a PhD in Economics from The American University in Washington, D.C. and an BA in Communications, Psychology, Peace Studies and Social Change from Augsburg College. Roth is a retired trial and business lawyer. He has represented and served on several nonprofit boards. He was one of the founders of Advocates for Human Rights and the Center for Victims of Torture and served on their boards and executive committees. He has also taught courses on labor law and mediation at the University of Miami Law School and Hamline University Law School He is a writer and activist on human rights and foreign policy issues at JMVR Inc. In his earlier life, he was a professional drummer (non-singing). He received his B.A. in English and his J.D. from the University of Minnesota.
Lee Silverstein is an accountant with several nonprofit and for-profit businesses, and has served on several nonprofit boards and serves as the treasurer of the One Voice Mixed Chorus Board of Directors. His exercise program is walking his 10 year old Coon Hound Mix dog and reviewing theater for the Ivey Awards.
James has been an event planner with Stagetime Productions since 2003, working primarily on non-profit organization fundraisers. He earned his Associate Bachelors Degree in advertising design and marketing in 1995. He has been a singer with One Voice Mixed Chorus since 2006. James has also been a 5th Section member over that time as well, involved with everything from website design/maintenance, graphic design, involvement with marketing committee and many One Voice fundraisers to currently being the chair for Showtune Showdown two years in a row. Music has always been a part of his life and One Voice is now a part of his family and community.
Tom Becker sang with One Voice its first six years, and served on the board during that time. He is also a former One Voice employee, having been the Operations Manager from 2007 to 2011. Tom's work experience includes Training Specialist and Business Team Lead for Target Corporation, and Team Leader and Claims Representative for CIGNA Property & Casualty Insurance Company. Tom is currently retired, and stays busy with several volunteer positions as well as singing and traveling. His BA degree is from the University of Minnesota.
Katrina Johnson majored in transportation geography and works for Metro Transit giving transit information to her customers over the phone. She was previously a self-employed building contractor. She has sung in choirs since she was 5 and she has been a Tenor in One Voice since 2000. She sang with OVation from 2007 to 2010 and worked on the production committee for about 10 years. She is active in her church and church choir and loves to travel with her wife.
Abbey Martin is a designer and musician, currently living in South Minneapolis. She was raised in the nonprofit sector and is an active volunteer. Abbey received her BA in Communication from Beloit College and is a Stillwater native. She also sings alto in One Voice Mixed Chorus.
Justin Martin is the Associate Director of Student Life at Century College. He also coordinates the college’s LGBTQ center. Justin has been active on several non-profit boards, including the Marcy Holmes Neighborhood Association, and the National Collegiate Summit for the American Cancer Society. He holds a Masters in Educational Leadership from Mankato State University.
Sarah Olson, the board member, is the mother of Sarah Olson, the One Voice Soprano. She is currently Vice President of Bradley Products, and has previously served as an Executive Director in the nonprofit sector.
Cal Vande Hoef is a veteran English teacher and speech coach at Cannon Falls HS who was named the 2011 Class A Coach of the Year. At Purdue University, he earned a BA in speech communication and twice qualified to the NCAA Wrestling Championships. Cal also holds a MA in education from St. Mary’s University. Cal is a non-singing fan of the chorus, its mission, and especially enjoys listening to a particular soprano.
Colleen Watson is one of the founding members of One Voice Mixed Chorus, active as a volunteer when not singing. Colleen is recently retired, having sold her successful employment service business. She now teaches marketing at Augsburg College, her alma mater, and serves as a docent at the Minneapolis Institute of Art.
