About the Chorus
One
Voice Mixed Chorus is Minnesota's GLBTA chorus with a mission of "building community and creating social change by raising our voices in song." One Voice gave its debut concert in 1989, making it one of the first choruses in the country to bring together men and women from the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered and allied communities. Under the direction of Jane Ramseyer Miller, One Voice is currently 80-voices strong and boasts of singing members from ages 16-65.
One Voice fosters a celebratory and supportive community for its singing members and audiences. Our concerts emphasize the positive role of GLBT people in society and increase the visibility of issues that are relevant to the LesBiGayTrans community.
We perform two major concerts per year in addition to 12-15 community performances. One Voice is known for its commitment to musical excellence, diverse repertoire, creative programming, community collaborations, and fabulous choreography! Our concert themes have included messages about GLBT life experiences, humor within our community, safe sex, AIDS, breast cancer awareness, queer reflections on history, the many dimensions of families, freedom songs from oppressed communities of the world, and music by typically under-represented composers (especially women and LesBiGayTrans artists).
Our repertoire covers a wide variety of musical styles including classical, contemporary choral, pop, jazz, Broadway show tunes, and political satire.
In addition to our busy rehearsal and performance schedule, One Voice members host many community building activities including dinners, social outings, camping trips, shared childcare, and an annual membership retreat.
One Voice Mixed Chorus is a non-profit organization funded through dues from singing members, donations from individuals, corporate sponsorships, and grants. We welcome your financial and in-kind contributions in support of the work of the chorus!
